If you’ve been following mom and me for any amount of time, you know we love sharing home tours! With all the hype around artificial intelligence, I had the idea – why not design a home using AI and give you all a full home tour experience?

I proudly present to you the “Southern Countryside Cottage.” For this home, I decided to use a neutral color palette with pops of blue and warm wood tones, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The whole design process was made possible with the help of the program called “Midjourney.”

Throughout this post, I’ll be sharing the prompts that led to the creation of this stunning home. Stay tuned till the end, as I’ll be answering some of the most common questions I’ve received about this unique AI-designed space.

While I’d love to provide look-alike links to shop this home, it’s worth mentioning that since it was designed using AI, none of the products physically exist. However, fear not, as we’ve hunted down similar items that you can explore and get inspired by.

EXTERIOR

My goodness is this exterior not DREAMY?! The landscaping takes it to a whole new level of beauty. I can’t get enough of those lush hydrangeas perfectly complementing the classic white siding. And that mature tree in the front yard adds a touch of elegance that would make me seriously consider buying this home if it were real. But, believe it or not, this masterpiece is a result of AI creativity.

If you’re new to AI programs like MidJourney, I totally understand that it might seem confusing at first. But fear not, it’s actually quite simple to use. All you have to do is type out “/imagine” and voilà, a box will pop up, prompting you to describe what you’d like it to look like. Here’s a little tip – the more detailed and precise you are with your descriptions, the better the results will be. So, let your imagination run wild and watch as the AI brings your vision to life!

LIVING ROOM

I’ve been dreaming of a soapstone accent in my fireplace in the living room and this AI generated living room has made the desire even stronger! The intricate millwork on the ceiling adds a touch of elegance, and the large-scale art over the mantle is a perfect statement piece. The soft blue patterned fabric on the accent chairs adds a delightful pop of color and style to the space.

I wish it would have spaced out the accent chairs more evenly and matched the vertical shiplap on both sides of the fireplace. AI does do some funky things sometimes but honestly it allows you to see things you wouldn’t have typically put together allowing you to be more creative.

KITCHEN

I love this kitchen! The natural wood island and the blue toile looking tile backsplash was so unexpected and honestly stunning. The large platters displayed on the shelves flanking the range hood was such a beautiful way to make a statement and compliment the backsplash. I wouldn’t think to do that but now I’d love to take that arrangement and make it my own.

DINING ROOM

This dining room came out super interesting and was not what I expected. The wallpaper is unique and BOLD. The chandelier and wall sconces are the perfect companions in this space.

I’d love to swap out the table for one with a tone more similar to the kitchen but maybe mixing the wood tones is just adding more interest. I’d love to know what you think.

OFFICE

THIS OFFICE! Goodness I love a moody wall color with beautiful trim and this office does it so well. I love that it’s the perfect balance of masculine and feminine. Someone should definitely take this office design as inspiration for their own home! It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful design can create an environment that inspires productivity and creativity while still being stylish.

Now this is a retreat! The perfectly positioned windows on each side of the bed flood the room with natural light, accompanied by a breathtaking large-scale art piece that takes center stage. The rustic beams gracing the ceiling impart a sense of inviting warmth, while the soothing cool blues in the bedding evoke a coastal oasis. In a word, it’s perfect!

The marble surround on the tub is absolutely breathtaking! I can’t help but daydream about living in a home with such luxurious features, even if it only exists in my imagination. But what truly sets this space apart are the small, thoughtful accents that leave a lasting impression. The delicate coral placed on the counter adds a touch of natural beauty, while the woven tray with soaps brings a sense of rustic charm and functionality. And those fresh stems adorning the bath’s ledge? They infuse the entire room with a refreshing and soothing ambiance. It’s these little details that truly make a huge impact and create a space that feels like an authentic retreat.

WHAT DID I LEARN FROM DESIGNING WITH AI?

I had an absolute blast exploring and generating various designs with the help of AI. It’s undeniably an amazing tool for sparking creativity and generating exciting ideas. However, I firmly believe that AI cannot replace designers entirely. Many of these looks require an artistic touch, intricate collecting, and thoughtful sourcing that only human designers can bring to the table. As of now, AI serves as an invaluable aid, amplifying our creative potential and allowing us to experiment and have fun like never before. My creative juices were certainly flowing while working with this technology, and I’m excited to see how AI continues to complement and enrich the design process.

Q&A

What are the best programs to use to design with AI?

Today I used MidJourney but MidJourney is not made specifically for design renderings. It’s very popular to create graphics, but works great to generate design images with the correct prompts. It can be very intimidating when you first begin so maybe a design specific program would be better to not be as overwhelmed. I will try a few and report back.
