Rustic Vivo Designs Christmas Home Tour

Mom and I were pretty disappointed when we learned that the local home tours that we look forward to every year around Christmas were canceled. So rather than letting 2020 disappoint us again, we decided to create virtual Christmas Home Tours for us all to enjoy. Every day this week you’ll see a new home up on the blog and you are going to LOVE every single one. Each tour will include video AND photos for you to take in all the inspiration to the fullest extent.

Next up on this series is our friend Mattie of @RusticVivoDesigns. Mattie is an interior designer and also owns a local boutique—The Rustic Warehouse. This home tour is going to be unique from the others in our Christmas series because we’re showing off the before and afters in her home remodel. Mattie is so talented and has completely transformed this house and made it home.

CHRISTMAS ENTRY WAY AND DINING ROOM

Let’s start with the entry way and dining room since this is the first thing you see when you walk into the home. Mattie kept the entry way simple adding a garland to the stairs and swapping out an excepting sign for Christmas sign. This is a great tip when you’re taking on seasonal decor. Swap out a few signs and add some greenery and you’re good to go.

Mattie’s dining room is my favorite because used seasonable decor that will last. The tablescape can be used from fall through winter without feeling like you’re skipping any seasons like we sometimes feel. The amber bottles give a warmth mixed with simple clear bottles. This is a cost-effective way to do the season.

Outside of Christmas decor, Mattie completely transformed this room. Scroll down to see the before. She added millwork to the wall to give it a fresh update and swapped out the dated chandelier. I love the chairs she chose. If you peak into her kitchen you’ll see they coordinate so well with her bar stools.

MODERN FARMHOUSE CHRISTMAS LIVING ROOM

In Mattie’s living room you’ll see she continued the wall treatment that she calls picture boarding. I have never heard it called that but it gives a modern feel to your traditional wainscotting. She painted the fireplace and added a new mantle (that I gave her 😋) and changed the light fixture. Make sure to scroll down to see the before.

The sofa, chairs, and ottoman came from Al’s, Mattie’s husband, father. He was very talented and built furniture for celebrities, Oprah Winfrey being one of them. He’s now passed away so recovering them in an updated fabric allowed them to keep these pieces that mean so much.

The tree is new this year and she decorating it will simple ornaments and ribbon. Having a flocked tree makes it so easy to decorate and fits right in with the style of her living room. Her piano is another place that is so great to decorate for the season. She swapped her typical art piece out for a holiday-themed scroll from CottonWood Shanty and voilà it’s Christmas!

MODERN FARMHOUSE KITCHEN

This is the BIGGEST transformation in the home so make sure to scroll down and look at the before photos. Mattie had a vision for this kitchen the second she walked into it. As her friend, I struggled wrapping my head around what it could be, but I supported her through it!

You’ll see high and low price points in this space. Her lights are a higher investment from Rejuventation, but they make such a huge statement. She saved by choosing more cost effective tile and counter tops and even DIYed some of the updated like painted her own cabinets and did dry wall in the pantry area. She says she’ll never DIY to that extent if she updates another kitchen, but she made these updates very recently so never say never 😋

Mattie has an amazing testimony which she shares briefly in the kitchen when she discusses her Charlie Brown tree that she bought for almost nothing when she first became a single mom. The Lord has totally restored everything bringing her an amazing Godly husband, Al, who now works the Rustic Warehouse with Mattie. It’s really cool that Al had a furniture background with his father being in the business. They are really the perfect pair.

I hope Mattie’s home tour brought you as much joy as it brought me. The transformation in this house is truly amazing. And her Christmas decor is just enough to let the home sign while giving it a dose of holiday cheet. Make sure to give Mattie a follow on Instagram at @RusticVivoDesign. Also, linked below are the other two home tours that have been released in this series. You will not want to miss them.
