DIY Valentines Date Idea

Gifts are awesome, but nothing’s sweeter than time together. Today is Feb 1 and we wanted to share a little Valentines Day inspiration with this DIY Date idea. This date is perfect for a girlfriend galentines date, time with the kids, or a date with your hubs. I chose Presley, one of our team member’s daughter and our Farmhouse baby, to celebrate Valentines Day with.

This idea could also be a sweet gift. Just package your decorated donuts up and use our printable below as the card and serve Valentines Day morning. Hopefully your loved one shares 😉

When making our donuts, we wanted the focus to be on garnishing the cute little guys together and less so on perfecting baking skills. So instead of making our own, we simply picked up a dozen donuts from our local bakery, without icing on top. We grabbed cake donuts and the icing went on perfectly.

We made our own batch of icing by following these instructions (and adding quite a bit of powdered sugar to the mix as a thickening agent), then dipped each individual donut into the bowl in order to use as a “mortar” for our toppings.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing toppings, but for our Valentine’s Day-themed donuts we used combinations of the following…

  • nuts
  • blackberries and raspberries
  • sprinkles

There’s truly no right way to top your donuts — any combination is fair game! Invite friends over for a fun Valentine’s Day gathering and have a ball decorating your own donuts, let the icing dry and harden, then compare your adorable creations moments before you delight in their sweet taste. Presley loved her donuts so much she wouldn’t let them go (see pictures below).  This date left some dishes in the sink, BUT definitely worth the clean up.
