Farmhouse Home Tour with Michele of Vintage Home
We’re excited for another home tour on the blog! We love touring DFW local homes selfishly for our own inspiration, but of course to share with our amazing community. This month we’re sharing Michele of Vintage Home Designs!
Michele has been a friend to mom and I for a while now and a huge inspiration when it comes to home design. She has such a creative eye and thoughtfully creates spaces that feel like home as you’ll quickly see. She has curated such a amazing collection of vintage finds each with a sweet story! I’m so excited to share with you.
Name: Michele
Location: Rockwall, Texas
Rent or Own: Own

Below are our favorite take aways from Michele’s home plus some great inspiration straight from Michele during our interview!
1. YOUR HOME IS MADE UP OF SUCH FUN, UNIQUE FINDS. WHERE ARE YOUR FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN HUNTING/COLLECTING?
I don’t really have a “go to” place for furniture or décor. I enjoy finding unique and one of a kind pieces at off the beaten path places or when I travel. I love thrifting and estate sale shopping, so I often find things that way. A couple of places I frequent are the Antique Co. Mall in downtown McKinney, and the Round Top Antiques Festival.
I started collecting furniture for the farmhouse when we first bought our lot and started the plans 5 years ago. Some of the larger statement pieces I bought before the house was actually started. A lot of things came from Round Top and local salvage yards.
2. WE LOVE HOW YOU BLEND OLD AND NEW SO WELL. WHAT WOULD YOU CALL YOUR STYLE?
I don’t really like to put a name on my style. I love and appreciate so many different styles, but for this home I wanted a cozy and welcoming space that reflected the farmhouse exterior.
I incorporated cottage, French and rustic farmhouse, and I was able to blend them together easily by keeping the colors all neutral.
I love how Michele has layered rugs here. It adds so much texture and interest in a neutral space. As you scroll you’ll see that she has layered rugs in multiple spaces in her home and each has a different flair. Layering rugs is a bit of a skill as it can look busy if not done right. Michele has the skill for sure.
The slipcovered sofas are from Ikea and Michele’s review of them was positive. You would never know these were a budget friendly option when you’re in her living room. They were so comfy and perfect for people who with pets and kids!
The wall color in these spaces is Anew Gray Mixed (SW 7030) at 50%. I love it because its a perfect balance of cool and warm. So often you find that grays come out looking tan or blue, but this one lands in the perfect hue every time.
3. DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS FOR PEOPLE LOOKING TO CREATE A SPACE UNIQUE TO THEM?
The key is staying true to what you love. Don’t question if everyone else will think it’s ok. If you love it, buy it!! You will find a place for it. And most likely will regret the pieces that really spoke to you, but you left behind.
4. A LOT OF YOUR TREASURE PIECES HAVE COOL AND UNIQUE STORIES, WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST SPECIAL TO YOU?
My favorite large piece in the house are the carriage house doors in our living area. They were the first thing I purchased for the home and we literally planned the wall around those doors. They are definitely a conversation and statement piece.

5. WE KNOW THAT A HOUSE IS NEVER TRULY NEVER FINISHED AND YOU’RE ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE A PROJECT IN MIND. WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE?
Absolutely, my home is never finished! As a designer, I am always moving things around and incorporating new pieces.
Honestly, I am about to tackle my office which has literally been the “catch all” room for the past 3 years. I am so excited to make it a fun, creative and organized space for me to work in.

6. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SPACE IN YOUR HOME AND WHY?
Currently, my sitting area off my kitchen. My favorite chair is there and it’s where I sit in the mornings with my tea or coffee, have my devotional/quiet time, and plan my day. When the weather permits, I can open the nearby French doors and enjoy the weather and the sound of my outdoor water fountain.
7. WE ALL HAVE THAT ONE ACCOUNT THAT WE HAVE THE NOTIFICATIONS TURNED ON FOR BECAUSE WE SOMEHOW FEEL CONNECTED TO THEM (AT LEAR WE DO 😂). WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE HOME CENTERED INFLUENCER/ACCOUNT TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH ON INSTAGRAM?
There are so many great accounts that I follow on IG, but a few of my faves are @r.house__, @featherglass, and @my100yearoldhome. They all have beautiful accounts, and a style similar to mine, so they are a constant inspiration.
8. WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE TO SOMEONE WHO IS REALLY EXCITED TO DECORATE THEIR FIRST HOME, BUT DOESN’T KNOW WHERE TO START?
The investment pieces like larger furniture, rugs, bedding, etc. should be classic and timeless so they don’t go out of style quickly. Change up your décor with smaller less expensive pieces like pillows, lamps and small décor items. Then you don’t feel guilty when you tire of them and want to change it up.
Don’t get caught up in what the current trend says you should do. The “color of the year”, doesn’t mean its YOUR color and just because “farmhouse” style is in, doesn’t meant it’s YOUR style.
Like I mentioned previously, stay true to what you really like. Take your time collecting things and curating your own unique style!
I hope this blog post inspires you to treasure hunt and create a space unique to you and your family!
