Timeless Kids’ Bedroom Reveal in Rockwall, Texas: Custom Wallpaper and Vintage Charm

Designing a kids’ room that feels both fun and sophisticated is no small feat, but this project in Rockwall, Texas was such a fun challenge on how you can strike the perfect balance. Our goal was to create a special space for our clients’ grandkids that feels elevated enough to flow with the rest of their new build home, while still inspiring a sense of whimsy and wonder.

The Showstopper: Custom Wildflower Wallpaper from Love Vs Design

One of the standout elements of this room is the custom Wildflower wallpaper from Love vs Design. To make it unique, we chose the color “Tawny,” a warm and subtle hue that complements the soft tones of the space. This print originally came in a blue hue which is also stunning, but it’s so fun to know this space is truly unique because of the custom choices you’re able to make with Love vs Design.

What made this process even more fun was involving our YouTube community—our viewers voted on three wallpaper options, and this design came out on top! We knew Wildflower in Tawny was going to be our choice but it was so cool to see that you all agreed.

We partnered with a professional installer to hang the wallpaper using traditional glue-on methods, and they couldn’t stop raving about the quality of the paper. If you’re considering a DIY-friendly option, Love vs Design also offers peel-and-stick versions, which we’re excited to try in a future project.

Cost-Effective Design Without Compromise

While kids’ rooms are often the most fun to design, we also know they’re not the spaces we want to heavily invest in, as kids quickly fade into the next seasons. With that in mind, we were intentional about making this room cost-effective without sacrificing style.

Here are some of the budget-friendly pieces we used to achieve this look:

  • Flush Mount Ceiling Light: Found on Amazon for under $100, it’s simple yet stylish.
  • Wicker Wall Sconces: These battery-powered beauties were just $40 each, also from Amazon.
  • Bedding: We chose affordable quilts from Amazon and added a small splurge with the cozy Anthropologie blankets at the foot of each bed.
  • Wicker Trunk: This stunning piece, placed between the beds, was a lucky estate sale find. Not only is it perfect for toy storage, but it adds so much character and makes the room feel truly unique.

One of our favorite cost-saving details was creating custom artwork. We scanned pages from a vintage Mother Goose book, also found at an estate sale, and framed them in simple Target frames. These sweet illustrations fit perfectly between the sconces and can easily be swapped out for the kids’ next favorite book!

Window Treatments That Wow

For the window shades, we turned to TwoPages and selected the parchment color, which beautifully complements the wallpaper. We chose an outside mount for these shades, and the quality exceeded our expectations. They’re simple, functional, and tie the entire room together.
