A Tasteful Hallmark Christmas

A couple Christmases ago I got a nasty cold. It happened to be a Sunday so I decided to stay in bed. I made a cup of Theraflu and put a box a tissues on my nightstand. I will admit, up to that point I’d never seen a Hallmark Christmas movie. I thought I’d check one out to see if they’re as cheesy as the previews appear. By the end of the day, one Christmas movie after the other and I was hooked! “Now I know what I want to do with the rest of my life,” I thought. But seriously, theres something to be said about the warmth of a Christmas love story. And it’s everything I want in my home. (Less the cheese factor of course!) 😉

Below you’ll find a tour of our home for Christmas this year with photos and a video along with some of our best tips for creating a warm, hallmark homey Christmas look! Scroll to the bottom to shop the look.

So how do you Hallmark your home? No matter your style, you can create a space that’s welcoming and warm. In keeping with our style, I decorate a bit minimal. I always have. There’s enough stress in the holiday season stretching our time, budget and relationships to add anything to it. To simplify I like to use natural elements from October through January. I use lots of pinecones, evergreen and other greenery for the backdrop and just exchange pumpkins for snowflakes. You get the idea. Nothing warms a home more than natural elements.

Pops of RED! What color says love more than red? We have a tree with mostly neutrals and a few red ornaments create an eye catching more dramatic look. To really cozy things up though, I use throw pillows. Solid red and red plaid pillows paired with gray buffalo plaid pillows make you want to snuggle up. Even our sweet pups Sam and Sadie can’t resist! Here’s an easy and cost effective way to add a pop of red: fill a bowl with a box of mixed red ornaments from Hobby Lobby. We used a white and red colander for a centerpiece on the island. I found a couple old red books and added them to our simple mantle.

We love a minimal mantle! But you don’t need to sacrifice warmth when you go minimal. Overdone evergreen with some black metal candlesticks along with our books are the perfect touches. Add a fire, fill your favorite mug with hot cocoa and there you are! Less stress and more fun. Like a Hallmark movie, holidays filled with love, ready for your family and friends!

  3. I’m in love with your fireplace. Perfection. Do you have a favorite greenery that you like to use? I’m thinking of planting a bush/tree or two for this specific use.

  5. Oh, and I’m with you on Halloween. I’ve never been a fan. The sooner the winter decor can go up the better.
