Rustic Vivo Designs Home Tour

We’re back with another home tour and I’m thrilled to be sharing one so amazing. If you’re new to the Farmhouse Living blog, once a month mom and I share a home tour of another homebody that has tons of inspiration to give.

Today we’re sharing Mattie Vivo of RusticVivoDesign with her gorgeous remodeled home. Mattie is a designer and owns a local vendor mall called The Rustic Warehouse. She’s creative and designs with a budget in mind. She’s a great friend and it’s a joy to share her with you. You’re going to love this one.

ENTRYWAY

We kick this tour off in her entryway. Mattie transformed this space with paint and shiplap. Before this room had a small window to the bathroom…Talk about strange. The window is now hidden under nickle gap shiplap and a family gallery wall. The shiplap also made the large columns on the staircase go from dated to intentional character.

DINING ROOM

Mattie’s design dilemma in her dining room was the strange door in the corner. She loves symmetry and the door placement took the balance from the room. Also, the door is not something useful to their family. Mattie covered it with a hutch that she painted Sherwin Williams Boothbay Grey. She placed canvas that she painted and added texture to on top of the hutch to fully cover the door.

I love that she added millwork to the dining room giving another layer of character. Many might think having shiplap and this board and batten millwork in two spaces open to each other would be too busy, but Mattie’s entry and dining room prove it’s magical.

KITCHEN

Mattie’s kitchen was a huge transformation. Not only was her kitchen dated, but it had no flow. In the video, she shared how she transformed it on a budget. Her first budget tip is to contract your project yourself. She spent time getting to know her cabinet maker and the local trades you’ll need for the project. She estimates that this saved her $5k-10k.

She also used the existing cabinet boxes and had new doors made where she could. This saved a ton as well. She saved on tile by doing simple subway allowing her to invest a little bit more for countertops and her amazing drum pendants.

One very creative thing she did was turn a bay window into a pantry to extend the kitchen. I really questioned this and couldn’t envision it, but you’ll see in the after photos how great it looks.

The breakfast nook before Mattie remodeled was HUGE, but not functional. Now this spot is the perfect size, has function and looks amazing. I love how she mixed these modern chairs with a table she refinished to have a restoration hardware finish. She used Jolie Paint in cocoa with dark wax.

LIVING ROOM

Mattie’s living room has a sophisticated modern style. She used picture panel molding, and along with the fireplace, painted everything white. She recovered the sofa inherited from her Father-in-law who was in the furniture business. She always likes to say he was ahead of his time in design. The olive green, cream pillows, and leather ottoman are a great compliment!

She DIY’d the chandelier and TV frame in the same matte gold she used on the dining room chandelier. She also painted the piano, which you can usually find for free since they are so heavy and such a pain a move. The custom art above the piano was done by a local artist and friend, which makes it unique and special. The rug and linen curtains complete the room.

We had to give Mattie a hard time because we have watched her poor fiddle leaf fig lose all its leaves except a few at the top! We gave her advice and she’s not giving up but it’s only faux figs from now on for this girl! 😂 We love Matties living room for all the personal pieces and style!

MASTER BEDROOM

Mattie’s master is sophisticated but cozy. The texture of the wallpaper adds such a statement to that back wall. She has two swivel chairs in front of the bed that are pretty and get a ton of use. She has a huge hutch piece that she uses for clothing storage and to house the tv. She dressed it up with artwork sconces. She had plans to have custom builtin’s created here to have the same function, but the price on an existing piece made a lot more sense here.

Also, look at that cute little puppy of theirs named Ace pictured in this room 🤗

MASTER BATHROOM

Mattie’s bathroom is her most recent transformation. She also worked her magic on a budget in here. She used porcelain tile with a marble look to give an upscale look. She paired it with a real marble accent to elevate the look even more. The only thing left here is her mirrors that she’s still waiting to arrive. We photoshopped them on so you can see the look she’d going for 😉
