New Build Modern Farmhouse Home Tour with Holly Christine Hayes
I’m so excited to share another home tour with you today. Mom and I decided to take a little vacation to Austin with the family since our original vacation plans were canceled due to covid. This was a great opportunity to see our friend Holly Christine Haye’s new build farmhouse and take y’all on a tour.
Holly has an amazing testimony and is a joy to know. I first connected with her after hearing her story on the Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey Podcast. Holly is a survivor of human trafficking and the founder/CEO of Sanctuary Project, a social enterprise bringing hope and healing to survivors of trafficking, violence and addiction. When I heard her story (please go listen, it’s SO GOOD) I knew I need to know her. I emailed asking for information about carrying Sanctuary candles at my store and Holly drove them up to Dallas all the way from Austin. At this time she was just renovating the barn on their property to live in while they built their forever home. Since we do so many home tours of course I had a friend that lives in a barndominum and so we ventured out to give her a little inspiration for her project and we’ve been friends ever since.

Holly’s style is modern farmhouse with a european flair. She has taken a minimalist approach to this design and it gives such a peaceful feeling in the home. Holly lived in Paris prior to moving to Austin and I love that you see touches of that in her home. Your first hint of modern farmhouse at Holly’s is the white board and batten exterior. The porch is so welcoming and of course we had to snap a picture of our babies in the rocking chairs. Holly’s little girl Havana is only a couple months older than my Quinn. Aren’t they cute? 🙊 Now back to the home tour 😉
Let’s head inside! When you’re outside of Holly’s home it feels country with the barn and the farm animals and then you walk in and are welcomed with a formal feel. Not formal in a stuffy way, but just a perfect touch of elegance and sophistication while still being warm and inviting.
On the left, you’ll see an antique grand piano that the Hayes built this room for. The piano was a wedding gift they decided to get each other when they moved from Paris to Austin. I love how the gold inside (or gold guts as my mom would say) perfectly matches the gold in the chandelier. It ties it all together. The ‘piano room’ has a case opening into a formal living that has a more modern feel with the leather sofa. The glammed up cow skull is another example of country meets elegance, maybe that’s what we should call Holly’s style 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not into labels when it comes to design, but I am loving the theme.
When you turn to the right you see the dining room which and is simple and classic.
Walking forward from the entry you enter the living room, kitchen, and breakfast nook that all open to each other. I love that these spaces are in style, but all the choices made will last a lifetime. Here is where you’ll see the touches of European Farmhouse. The decor is simple and you don’t see much on the wall, but you don’t need wall art when your windows make a statement like they do in this living room. The black frames showing off their beautiful property is all that you need.
The fireplace has curvy millwork that looks like it’s straight from Paris, where Holly and her husband lived prior to moving to Austin. The mirror that they have over the fireplace is a nod to an antique mirror they have in their apartment in Paris.
You see a similar style in the vent hood in the kitchen. It goes perfectly with the two-toned cabinets. Her island is black, but you can still see wood grain giving it a softer look. In the kitchen is a breakfast nook with a white round table and upholstered chairs and bench which makes such a cozy place to land. You can see the vineyard on the property through these windows—talk about a dream.
Holly’s master bedroom has a similar style to the living room. In the video she shares that she has more plans for the room, but is loving it right now. The bathroom feels like a spa. I love that she wasn’t afraid to mix metals with the gold chandelier and the polished chrome faucets.
Sweet Havana’s nursery is a dream. The chandelier adds whimsy to the space and looks like it was made with the decor over the crib without being too matchy matchy. Just like the rest of the house there is so much elegance in this room. You’d never know that Havana has pet cows and goats when you come in her room 😋
Their property has a vineyard on it planted by the previous owners. As we walked the property Holly shared how special her time walking through the rows of vines is and how the bible has come to life as they have learned to care for the plants so they bear fruit. Their pool has a resort-style feel with a heavenly view of the vineyard and land. She even has ‘Reserved’ signs on her lounge chairs. It really is the best of both worlds. Holly if you ever find me randomly lounging in your backyard uninvited, I simply don’t know if I can help myself.
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing…” – John 15: 1-27
Holly has Scottish highland cows, goats and silkie chickens! This wanna be suburban farm girl was so jealous of all these cuties at the Haye’s Homestead. All of her goats have named from presidents and first ladies. From inside her home to her farm animals, she puts a sophisticated regal touch on it all.
I hope this blog post inspires you to create a space unique to you and your family! Thank you Holly for sharing your gorgeous home with us and letting us get to know you.
