My Little Barn Home Tour – Spring Decor Inspiration

We’re excited for another home tour on the blog! We love touring DFW local homes selfishly for our own inspiration, but of course to share with our amazing community. This week we’re sharing Shannon Wilson of My Little White Barn!

When I think of Farmhouse as a home style, I think of simplicity. It’s a timeless look that creates room for rest. Shannon shows us exactly how to take this look on in her home. She has the perfect amount of decor giving value to each styled vignette and the white space in between.

Below are our favorite take aways from Shannon’s home plus some great inspiration straight from Shannon during our interview!

TAKE AWAY 1: WHITE SPACE IS VALUABLE EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LOVE FOR LOTS OF DECOR

Shannon isn’t lacking decor to any degree and if you walked in her house you probably wouldn’t call her a minimalist, but oh man does she incorporate white space well. It adds value to each vignette giving your eyes the rest it needs and really showing character in specific spaces. I think this is an element often missing from the farmhouse style yet Shannon does it perfectly.

TAKE AWAY 2: BRING IN GREENERY FOR SPRING

I love how simple Shannon’s splashes of spring are. She has a few sweet bunnies and pops of green that bring life to the space. We caught a glimmer of spring coming to her home with her peach orchard beginning to bloom in her front lawn right outside with her chicken coop and her sweet white barn, hence the name of her instagram.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF! (FAMILY, HOBBIES, WORK, PETS, PASSIONS, ETC.)

I’m a homebody who loves hosting family and friends for a good meal around the table, and as I’m sure you noticed all my books. I love love reading.

WE LOVE YOUR HOME!
WHEN DID YOU PURCHASE/START RENOVATING IT?

We purchased our home about 2 1/2 years ago and started the renovations the day we moved in.

WE SEE THAT YOU HAVE RENOVATED YOUR SPACE. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED OR WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT IT? WE ALL COULD USE THE HELP!

I learned not to make quick decisions, and to take breaks. Trying to do too much too fast just burned me out. Just enjoy the process!

WITH SPRING  RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER, WE LIKE TO SHARE DIFFERENT WAYS TO STYLE. HOW DO YOU LIKE TO DECORATE FOR THIS SEASON?

I always use accent pieces to change up the seasons, I believe color changing from deep rich colors to white bright colors with pillows, throws, small art pieces etc can change to look of an entire room.

DURING RENOVATION, WHAT PROJECTS DID YOU DIY AND WHAT DID YOU HIRE PROFESSIONALS FOR? WE HAVE LEARNED THAT WE CAN’T DO IT ALL ON OUR OWN!

I am very lucky to have a very handy husband who did most of the work, but he also knows his limit. We hired help for big stuff like floors, countertops etc.

WHEN YOU ARE DECIDING HOW TO DESIGN YOUR SPACE, HOW DO YOU BRING ALL OF YOUR IDEAS TOGETHER? DESIGN BOARD, PINTEREST, ETC…

I really don’t “design”, I just buy what I like, and typically what I buy all seems to come together. I have a motto that if I love it I buy it, and I will find a place for it later. I don’t follow any rules at all, as a matter of fact I tend to like stuff that doesn’t match.

Thank you Shannon for sharing your gorgeous home with us and letting us get to know you a little better. You can find Shannon on Instagram @mylittlewhitebarn_.
