Touch Gold Kitchen & Breakfast Nook Reveal

I’m so excited to share more of the Touch Gold Project. Last week we revealed the living room of our most recent remodel project, my mom’s new home. This kitchen was such a fun project to dream up. I haven’t really been a gold gal in the past, but those that know my mom know that she is. The bold choices in finishes are exactly what I would expect from my momma and I’m loving how it all came together.

How about that before! It needed a lot of love, but we saw the potential immediately when we saw the house.

When mom said she wanted to go with gold hardware and gold lights I was nervous! It was so bold. Once we started going through inspiration photos I could see her vision. I found this hardware at Pottery Barn and was pleased how it went with the light fixtures even though the handles and knobs are a little more muted. We used Taj Mahal Quartzite to bring it all together.

“I chose a quartzite counters because I wanted a natural stone in a tone that would brighten the kitchen, but not necessarily lock me into a design trend that said, ‘2018’. Quartzite usually has a grey to white appearance with a variety of possible shades and veins due to mineral deposits. Everyone comments how the ones we chose have streaks of gold that compliment our hardware! Don’t tell anyone but that was a happy accident, we didn’t really do it on purpose.” – Michelle (Mom)

We also found two pub lights for over the sink on Amazon. They look great and they were extremely affordable, but there are some downsides to this fixture. When you’re installing them be very careful because the finish scratches so easily. Also, when we put them in we didn’t like the light reflecting off the gold when they were turned on. It was a little harsh, so we painted the inside of the shade white. We used chalk paint because it’s what we had around and we were using LED bulbs so we weren’t concerned about heat. I would order these light fixtures again as long as they weren’t my main statement in a space. We chose high-end finishes and so this was a place to save rather than splurge more. Isn’t Sammie the Aussie so cute? He always crashes photoshoots.

The kitchen flows into the breakfast nook which flows into the living room. It’s a great layout for my parents because each room feels very defined while they open into each other. For the breakfast nook we used furniture my mom had in the previous house and added a new, fun light fixture to give old pieces a new look. This table is definitely more traditional, but you wouldn’t know it with the other elements in the space. I hope this bit inspires you to work with what you have!

Let’s wrap up with the perfect letterboard quote to celebrate our kitchen reveal. Who can’t relate to this? 🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. I love all of it and i especially love the light fixture in the living room. Do you mind sharing the source. Also the name of the quartzite too if you don’t mind. We are in the process of remodeling and it is very tough as i like so many different options.

  2. The link for the gold pendants does not seem to work. I really would like any info you could provide to help me find them to order. Thanks!

  3. I just found this post and I am over the moon – i have been looking for inspiration that pulls all of my favorite elements together for my kitchen remodel and you’ve realized my dream kitchen to a T! 1. Hey Holly! I’m so glad you found us. We LOVE providing inspiration because we know how hard it is to commit to design decisions.

After searching diligently I found another link for the herringbone tile! https://rstyle.me/+MpbDjRpJraMm08rF4KVW6w I wanted to make sure it was the exact one 🙂 Let me know if you have any other questions! Also, we’d love to see photos when you’re done with your kitchen!

  4. PS – it looks like the herringbone tile (my favorite!) is out of stock on Wayfair. Any ideas where I could find it, or something similar?

  5. Hi! What color grout did you use for the herringbone backsplash? I love this look and it’s exactly what I’m trying to do to my kitchen-perfect balance in color- but unsure of the grout color. Thanks!!!

  6. I am in LOVE with this! Thank you for sharing. I am in the process of a remodel and am so happy I came across this post. Would you mind sharing what finish you used for the kitchen island painted in Iron Ore? It doesn’t seem shiny like a semi-gloss and I absolutely love the more flat look as it seems in the photo. You have inspired me to use this color in our kitchen, it’s the perfect charcoal/black. I already have the swatch. Thanks!

  7. Hi! I just stumbled across this after choosing an iron ore island and pure white cabinets for our remodel and this is so helpful to see the full picture! Are the walls in this room (and dining room) also pure white? Having trouble picking a wall color!
