Master Bedroom Progress & Design Plans – How to Stay Inspired While Decorating/Remodeling Your Home Over Time
Today I’m excited to share updates in mom’s master bedroom along with the design plants for her master bathroom. While we do this we’re going to share our tips on how to stay motivated while taking your time to design your home.
The internet and tv shows have conditioned us to believe that we should be able to snap our fingers and a room should be a masterpiece. Our secret sauce to good room design is TIME! We know it’s not sexy. But it is freeing! Taking time to create a space over time has so many great benefits.
1. HAVE FUN!
First off, taking your time allows you to have fun and enjoy the process. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve rushed through a project and felt the pressure that stole the joy from the entire thing. That doesn’t mean you can’t have deadlines or urgency especially if you need the function of the room but every detail doesn’t need to be finished overnight. When you’re having joy in it all it’ll end up going quicker because you’ll make time for it more often.
I like to make time to laugh during a design project. While we were updating mom’s master bedroom we learned how to do a TikTok dance and laughed until we cried 😂 We had fun and we love the progress we made in the room. If you’d like to see our reel you can find it here 😉
2. FIND BRANDS/PRODUCTS WORTH INVESTING IN
I love investing in brands that are transparent about their manufacturing process and offer quality you can’t find at a big box store. Boll and Branch bedding was one of those investment pieces. But a good night’s sleep with a luxury hotel feel is well worth it! The duvet we chose is inspired by cotton bolls in bloom. With a texture that gives it a sophisticated look. We love the how practical a duvet can be, since it’s washable. Our spoiled pups can hop on the bed and muddy paws are no problem.

3. FIND FULL VISION FOR A SPACE
Time allows vision to develop for a room. The master bathroom is a great example of this. It has strange ledges and architectural features that needed to be thought out. We’ve taken time to find inspiration and even had renderings made based on our inspiration so that we can confidently move forward renovating the bathroom. These renderings are fun to look at and dream about as we wait and move through the process of renovation.

4. CHOOSE THE RIGHT CONTRACTORS
Taking your time allows you to find the perfect people to take on your project. We’ve been in a rush and made mistakes choosing contractors. One day we’ll have to redo the backsplash in the kitchen because the contractor we chose was not qualified to install the complicated tile pattern we chose. This is by far the most important decision when taking on any renovation. We’ll be searching for the perfect one for the master bathroom project!
5.COLLECT ANTIQUES AND ONE OF A KIND CHARACTER
You can’t rush finding unique antiques and vintage pieces that add character to your home. We found vintage doors for the master bathroom/bedroom reno shortly after we moved in our home. The hunt for pieces that will give your home a one-of-a-kind design is also something well worth the wait. We sourced these 10-foot doors from Egypt at our favorite local dealer, Antiques and Vintage. We have kept them for the day we get to begin renovation and we know we’ll appreciate and value them so much more when we finally see them installed in our space!
I hope you’re inspired to take your time to create a home you love and not be discouraged by the internet and TV. We love to see steady progress that gives us lots of time to laugh and dream up beautiful details. Did you need this encouragement? Do you have a project that’s taken time? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
