DIY Cleaner for Upholstery – BETTER THAN BLEACH

Today I’m sharing an amazing DIY recipe that works so well on furniture.

Quite often people ask mom and me how we both have white sofas. The answer is that they’re slipcovered so they are super easy to clean. Last week I finally had a stain that wouldn’t come out in the washer even with BLEACH. Our dog Bella found a pack of peanut butter that she decided she would snack on the couch. We needed something more effective to release the oils and gunk left behind. I’m so excited we found a solution!

The first thing I did was take the slipcover off and throw it in the wash with bleach. In the future, I will always be using this DIY cleaner before I do that. Bleach sometimes can make white fabrics come out splotchy and isn’t effective on oils. Here’s a photo of the stain post bleach.

RECIPE

• 1/2 cup peroxide
• 1/2 cup dish soap
• 1/4 cup water

I put this mixture in a spray bottle and simply sprayed it on the stain. I let it sit for 30 minutes and then threw it in the wash and the couch was good as new! Easy as that!

If you have an item that you cannot throw in the wash simply scrub the cleaner out with a wet rag. I did this with these floor pillows and was also shocked by the results. I was going to throw them away after the dog had used them as a bed one too many times but decided to give it a try. They look perfect and even smell amazing.

I’m happy to have this to spot treat rugs as well. I have not tried this recipe on colored fabrics yet but when I do I will report back.
