Blooming Ivy Lane Farmhouse Home Tour

We’re excited for another home tour on the blog! We love touring DFW local homes selfishly for our own inspiration, but of course to share with our amazing community. This month we’re sharing Stephanie of Blooming Ivy Lane!

Stephanie’s home is the most thoughtfully and intentionally curated that I’ve ever walked into. Her home is one that you know you cannot simply imitate, because it’s been collected overtime with intention at estate sales, antique stores and etc. Designing this way takes time, but time well spent because it will never go out of style. I left Stephanie’s so inspired and I’m thrilled to share with you today.

Name: Stephanie
Location: Rockwall, Texas
Rent or Own: Own

Below are our favorite take aways from Stephanie’s home plus some great inspiration straight from Stephanie during our interview!

1. YOUR HOME IS SO WELL CURATED! WE ARE DYING TO KNOW WHERE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITES PLACES TO HUNT FOR TREASURE PIECES. WHEN DID YOU START COLLECTING FURNITURE?

I am a true believer of the saying, “One mans ‘trash’ is another mans treasure.” Ok, maybe not trash, but definitely stuff one man doesn’t want anymore! 😂My hubby and I spend most Friday mornings going to estate sales all over the metroplex. Almost everything in my house is from an estate sale, garage sale, flea market or antique shop. I get all the character in my home and it cost almost nothing!

2. WE LOVE THAT YOU HAVE BLENDED OLD AND NEW SO WELL, WHAT WOULD YOU CALL YOUR STYLE?

I  feel like my style is just classic/timeless/traditional some new, some old.

3. BEST TIPS FOR SOMEONE LOOKING TO CREATE A SPACE UNIQUE TO THEM?

The best tips I can give for creating a unique space are,

Buy what you like,  not only what’s on trend.

Be patient.  A unique space takes time. You won’t get a unique look by buying everything from big name stores. Collect things over time and add them in as you go.

Have collections. I love blue transferware, little trinket boxes, house plants, books, etc.  and you will find them sprinkled throughout my entire home.  It adds character, shows intention and authenticity with your decor, and keeps your look consistent throughout your home.

Use pieces in unconventional ways! Be creative! (See question #4😉)

Don’t be afraid to mix and match!! Especially furniture.  And for the love…keep some pieces original stained wood!!!

4. A LOT OF YOUR TREASURE PIECES HAVE COOL AND UNIQUE STORIES, WHICH IS YOUR FAVORITE OR MOST SPECIAL TO YOU?

I have collected so many cool pieces over the years, but I think my all time favorite is the hutch in my bathroom.  I bought that piece before we even did our house plans with intention to design my bathroom around it.  I needed storage but wanted to do my best to design a home that felt true to the time period of our homes style. And I love that it’s unexpected and unconventional. It worked out perfectly and it’s definitely a favorite of everyone that sees it!

I love how Stephanie uses unconventional pieces in spaces. It’s so unexpected. I also love how she’s not afraid to mix and match. One tip she gave us when we were chatting at her home on how she curates such amazing pieces (for cheap I might add) is by using the EstateSales.net App! This app has estate sales listed all over the country and you can scroll through pictures to see if anything peaks your interest.

5. WE KNOW THAT A HOUSE IS NEVER TRULY FINISHED AND YOU’RE ALWAYS GOING TO HAVE A PROJECT IN MIND. WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Oh man! Is this true! I am currently working on my garden and potting shed. It’s a first for us but we are so excited and we actually have 3 tomatoes and 1 squash growing as we speak!! Haha! We will call that a win!

Oh Stephanie! I’ve never been more jealous of someone than you with this cute garden and outdoor area. If you just find me hanging out in your backyard it’s because I just don’t know if I can help myself. It really is such an oasis and the poodle squad makes it even better 😉

6. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SPACE IN YOUR HOME AND WHY?

My favorite space in my home is my entry hall.  I designed this entire house around that entry hall and it turned out exactly how I saw it in my head! It’s my favorite spot in adds the character and charm I wanted.  It makes a statement right from the entrance and it keeps true to the time period of the style we were hoping to achieve. It was the one room on the plans that was non- negotiable for me when we were designing our home. It took a while to translate to the architect exactly what I was trying to achieve but he got it right and it’s perfect!

7. WE ALL HAVE THAT ONE ACCOUNT THAT WE HAVE THE NOTIFICATIONS TURNED ON FOR BECAUSE WE SOMEHOW FEEL CONNECTED TO THEM (AT LEAST WE DO 😂). WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE HOME CENTERED INFLUENCER/ACCOUNT TO FOLLOW ALONG WITH ON INSTAGRAM?

I have 3 favorites…@nineandsixteen is my all time favorite!! I also, absolutely love @jennysteffenshobick and @blessedmammatobabygirls. All 3 have beautiful, classic homes that I absolutely love!! @jennysteffenshobick also has a shop that carries the most beautiful, hand painted throw pillow covers and kitchen linens that are sprinkled all throughout my house!! Love them!!

8. WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE TO SOMEONE WHO IS REALLY EXCITED TO DECORATE THEIR FIRST HOME BUT DOESN’T KNOW WHERE TO START?

Just do what YOU love. Anything goes! Your home should be a collection of all YOUR favorite things and should reflect your style and personality! Don’t worry about trends, you do you!!!😉

I hope this blog post inspires you to treasure hunt and create a space unique to you and your family!
